The story is that of two clever crooks who are operating at a fashionable seaside resort, with the help of a highly trained and uncannily intelligent chimpanzee. Valuable jewels are constantly disappearing and the detectives are unable to obtain a clue. Finally, after an especially daring robbery, a clue is found that leads to the discovery of the thieves. The simian leads the detectives a chase that calls for some acrobatic stunts on the part of the chasers. The end of this is the capture of the chimpanzee, recovery of the jewels and the arrest of the crooks.

When Mrs. Chapman Price, the daughter of wealthy socialite Mrs. Janney, quarrels with her husband over her mounting gambling debts, he packs his suitcase and moves out. Desperate to pay off her debts, Mrs. Price rifles her mother's safe but discovers that its contents are missing. The blame points to Chapman Price and Esther Maitland, Mrs. Janney's private secretary. When the Price baby is kidnapped and held for ransom, Esther is suspected of that crime, too. Only Dick Ferguson, a neighbor, believes in Esther's innocence. After several misadventures, Esther discovers that the kidnapping was perpetrated by the detective whom Mrs. Price hired to unravel the burglary, which was committed by Ferguson's servant. Thus cleared, Esther joins the man who believed in her, and the Prices are reconciled.

A thief known as The Hawk has stolen the treasured Garter from the British Museum. One of the men pursuing the thief is mistakenly thought to be The Hawk himself, and so must seek his quarry while himself being hunted.

Edith Sturgis, the daughter of a judge, returns from studies abroad to find her widowed father remarried. The new Mrs. Sturgis does not reveal that she has a son Dick, once unjustly jailed by Judge Sturgis, but now working as a reporter while still maintaining an association with the Brownlow gang. Quarrelling with her stepmother, Edith leaves home, meets Dick and falls in love. While Dr. and Mrs. Allen (whom Edith met on the steamer) are visiting in the Sturgis home, the doctor's valuable radium is stolen from the safe, and Judge Sturgis is found murdered. Dick, though with Edith at the time, is accused of the crime. Finally, an old shoemaker confesses that he entered the house to steal the radium, with which to cure his crippled son, and witnessed the judge's slaying by the Brownlow gang. Dick is freed and finds happiness with Edith, and the doctor helps the crippled boy.

Betty Jordan falls in love with Easterner Burke Randolph after seeing his performance in the Broadway hit A Western Knight . When Betty returns home to Montana, Sheriff Sims, her admirer, discovers her photographs of Burke and becomes jealous. Soon after, Burke's touring theater company comes to perform in a neighboring town. When Sims discovers Burke's proximity, he orders his arrest. Burke escapes but is recaptured by a posse. Just as they are about to lynch Burke, Betty rides in and rescues him by cutting the rope, reenacting a scene from the Broadway show. Burke then captures a band of bank robbers, and the sheriff, faced with his own duplicity, releases Burke, who becomes the town's hero and marries Betty.

The uncle of "Bare-Fisted Gallagher" dies and leaves the Eagle Mine in the San Rafael Valley. When he arrives to take possession of it, he meets and falls for pretty Jem Mason, a woman who dresses like a cowboy and, to show she's a good shot, shoots off his hat. Gallagher doesn't know that Aliso Pete, the owner of the general store, is also interested in Jem. He also doesn't know that Aliso Pete has another secret, one that could cost Gallagher his life.

Larry Lang has carried the memory of his father's killing by Claude Dutton since his youth and is determined to avenge the crime. The townspeople of the small western border town believe Larry is "plumb locoed" because he employs a rowdy gang of cow punchers for only a few head of cattle. Dutton is ensconced in Bottle Canyon, the neck of which is constantly guarded by his men. When Dutton's henchman Two-Gun Dan fails to capture Larry, Dutton attempts the job himself. Meanwhile, Larry's cousin Dora Lawrence arrives to make her home with Larry who is to be her guardian. Larry's men are absent, and while Mexican bandit Pedro holds Dora, Dutton searches for a large sum of money hidden in Larry's bed. Larry returns and kills Dutton, then a romance develops between Larry and Dora.

John Whalen is ordained into the priesthood and assumes the leadership of a small-town New Jersey parish. His dying mother's last wish is for young doctor Edward Welsh and his sweetheart to be married. Rev. Whalen devotes much time and effort to overcoming the obstacles to the union, managing along the way to solve the problems of other townspeople.

When milk magnate Jacob Strauss is found murdered in his library, the guilt points to Strauss' secretary, Harry Gray, who the previous day was fired when his employer discovered that he was secretly engaged to his daughter Sybil. Arrested for the crime, Gray asserts that he arrived in time to witness the attack on Strauss by a masked man who escaped through the window. When the secretary's story is ridiculed because the window is sixteen stories above ground, Sybil appeals to Tex to take the case. After a long search, Tex summons a number of suspects to his office and accuses Blake, whose apartments are above those of the murdered man. It transpires that Blake, who held a grudge against Strauss for losses he suffered in the milk pool on the exchange, killed him and made his escape by means of a rope. Thus exposed, Blake leaps out the window to his death, clearing Gray of guilt and freeing him to face a happy future with Sybil.

At a party thrown at the Metcalf estate, the Marquise D'Irancy's Sultana diamond disappears when the lights go out during a power failure. Suspected of the crime is William Kirkland, the wastrel son of the wealthy Kirkland family, but William's sister Diana comes to his defense. Aiding her in the investigation is Clamp, a wandering peddler. After several misadventures, Clamp reveals that he is a secret service agent on the trail of the international criminals, the de Vallignacs, who are summering at the resort. After proving that the de Vallignacs have stolen the diamond, Clamp arrests his prey, clears William and marries Diana.
