A Rough Party

In this 1923 comedic curiosity, Charles Lamont explores the thin line between social flirtation and total absurdity. The narrative follows two young men, played by Hilliard Karr and Al Alt, who spend their afternoon attempting to charm a young woman (Constance Darling) they encounter on the street. Their persistence earns them an invitation to what they assume will be a standard high-society gathering. However, the 'rough party' of the title reveals itself to be a costume-themed masquerade where the adult guests are required to dress and behave as toddlers. What follows is a surreal display of physical comedy, as grown men in oversized rompers and bonnets navigate a world of giant toys and nursery politics, turning a simple pursuit of romance into a bizarre exercise in regression.
