Bubbles
Summary
In a sun‑drenched suburb of early twentieth‑century America, the indomitable Bubbles—an irrepressible tomboy with a shock of unruly hair and a penchant for knickerbockers—rebuffs Aunt Amelia’s relentless crusade to mould her into a demure lady of the drawing‑room. Defiantly clad in masculine attire, Bubbles encounters the roguishly charming Jack Corrigan, whose easy grin masks a world of social clubs and masculine camaraderie. Jack, intrigued by her audacity, escorts her to his boisterous fraternity, where she masquerades as "one of the boys"; the ruse collapses when his boisterous companions discern her true gender, prompting a mixture of amusement and admiration. Exasperated by Aunt Amelia’s incessant meddling, Bubbles severs ties, seeking autonomy as a nursemaid in a genteel household. There, she discovers Mrs. Dorrence entangled in a scandalous liaison, prompting Bubbles to summon Jack’s aid. Jack, ever the fixer, intervenes, but in doing so he persuades Bubbles to relinquish her tomboyish swagger, embracing conventional femininity and ultimately accepting his proposal of marriage.
