Called Back
Summary
In this 1914 celluloid adaptation of Hugh Conway’s Victorian sensation, Gilbert Vaughan, a gentleman afflicted by total blindness, finds himself ensnared in a labyrinth of spectral intuition and domestic tragedy. He wedded Pauline, the fragile and seemingly catatonic ward of the enigmatic Dr. Ceneri, unaware that her psyche is a fractured mirror reflecting a forgotten horror. During a profound clairvoyant episode, Vaughan’s sightless eyes 'witness' the brutal assassination of Pauline’s brother, Anthony—a crime occurring in a psychic realm beyond the physical veil. As his vision is miraculously restored, the protagonist must navigate a treacherous landscape of guilt, medical gaslighting, and the lingering shadows of an Italian conspiracy to exhume the truth buried within his wife’s shattered memory and his own transcendental perceptions.
