Hell's Four Hundred

In the shadow-drenched corridors of 1920s metropolitan power, District Attorney John North finds his professional integrity colliding with his private heart. He is deeply enamored with Barbara Langham, a woman whose social standing is jeopardized by the reckless gambling habits of her brother, Marshall. Sensing a vulnerability in the legal system's guardian, café proprietor John Gilmore orchestrates a predatory scheme. He deploys Evelyn Vance, a calculating chorus girl with a mercenary soul, to entangle Marshall in a scandal that would ruin the Langham name and neutralize North. However, the plot takes an unforeseen detour into domestic entrapment when Evelyn, recognizing a more permanent payday, chooses to marry the gambler rather than merely discredit him.
