Summary
In the sun‑bleached outskirts of a bustling railway town, twin brothers are torn apart by circumstance. The elder, christened Eli, is whisked away by a wandering circus troupe, only to be abandoned on a freight yard where he is taken under the wing of a grizzled railroad engineer named Bartholomew. There, Eli learns the rhythm of steel and steam, his hands calloused by the weight of iron rails, his eyes narrowed against the soot‑filled horizon. Meanwhile, his younger sibling, Jasper, is reclaimed by their affluent parents and thrust into a world of silk gowns, lavish soirées, and the soft murmur of aristocratic gossip. Jasper’s days are spent in manicured gardens, his nights in candlelit parlors, oblivious to the clang of distant locomotives. A fateful mix‑up at a bustling market—where a stray dog delivers a misplaced locket—sets the stage for mistaken identities: Eli, now adept at coaxing locomotives, is mistaken for the pampered heir, while Jasper, bewildered by the coarse language of the rail yard, is taken for the laborer’s son. The ensuing comedy of errors spirals through a series of near‑captures, heartfelt confessions, and narrow escapes. Ultimately, the twins’ divergent paths converge at the grand railway station, where a tearful reunion restores them to their rightful parents, and the film closes on a tableau of trains departing into the amber dusk, symbolizing both separation and unity.
