Summary
In the austere environs of a coastal Portuguese hamlet, Ana—an obstinate and restless spirit—spurns the unblemished devotion of André, whose love is as steady as the tide. She is instead drawn to a nobleman, a figure of aristocratic allure whose attentions are as fleeting as a summer breeze. When his interest wanes, Ana is thrust into the stark void of abandonment, confronting the brutal arithmetic of desire versus duty. The narrative charts her descent into desolation, culminating in a contemplative pilgrimage toward the cloistered silence of a nun’s cell, where the echo of her former passions is replaced by the solemn rhythm of prayer. Through this journey, the film interrogates the paradox of agency and surrender, mapping Ana’s metamorphosis from a defiant lover to a contemplative ascetic, set against the relentless backdrop of the Beira coastline.
