Only a Dream

Only a Dream plunges us into the fractured psyche of a playwright, Jianpei Mao, reeling from a recent romantic collapse. Seeking solace or perhaps simply distraction, he retreats to a serene lakeside resort. Here, his path intersects with a peculiar couple: an older man and his strikingly younger, enigmatic wife, Meng-Shi Wang. What begins as an innocent, if curious, observation soon spirals into a clandestine affair between the playwright and the wife. As their illicit connection deepens, she gradually unveils a more unsettling, perhaps even corrosive, dimension to love and desire, challenging his preconceived notions of romance and healing in ways he could not have anticipated.
