Summary
In the episodic world of 'Sign Them Papers,' Earl McCarthy reprises his role as the intrepid comic-strip hero, Hairbreadth Harry. The narrative thrust centers on the abduction of his spirited sweetheart, Beautiful Belinda (Erin La Rue), by the unremittingly villainous Relentless Rudolph (John J. Richardson). Rudolph, presented as the epitome of a 'bad apple,' orchestrates Belinda's capture with the sole aim of coercing her into signing over her valuable gold mine. Her steadfast refusal precipitates a series of increasingly outlandish and perilous deathtraps, from the melodramatic threat of a 'free bath' in boiling oil to the imminent danger of being crushed by a giant papier-mâché boulder suspended by a burning rope. Harry, true to his heroic calling, embarks on a relentless pursuit to rescue Belinda, culminating in a delightfully absurd, man-sized 'shell game' sequence where his quick wit must outmaneuver the antagonists' crude schemes.
Synopsis
Earl McCarthy is back as C.W. Kahles' comic-strip hero Hairbreadth Harry. This time his sweetie Beautiful Belinda (Erin La Rue) is an "up-to-date sports model" kidnapped by Relentless Rudolph (John J. Richardson), who's "not just a bad apple, he was the whole orchard." When she refuses to sign over her gold mine, she's threatened with a "free bath" in boiling oil, being crushed by a giant papier-mâché boulder dangling from a burning rope and other grim fates. Naturally, our Harry rides to the rescue. The funniest sequence has him outfoxing the villains in a man-sized, logic-defying "shell game." - Dennis Harvey
