Summary
Within the somber confines of Junkershus, a stately but suffocating edifice, three sisters—Marie-Louise, Louise-Marie, and Madelaine—languish under the benevolent yet stifling guardianship of their aunt, the manor’s mistress. Their existence is a tableau of profound ennui, a relentless succession of monotonous days punctuated only by the unwelcome presence of their cousin, Jonas. This figure, a walking embodiment of sanctimony and disingenuousness, drifts through their rarefied social circles, his very being a source of profound irritation. The film masterfully sketches a world where the 'ghost' is not merely a spectral entity, but the pervasive specter of unfulfilled desires, societal strictures, and the haunting echo of lives unlived, all exacerbated by Jonas's insidious hypocrisy that permeates the stagnant air of their ancestral home.
