Szent Péter esernyöje
Summary
Deep in the verdant, superstition-heavy ridges of Upper Hungary, the arrival of a simple red umbrella transforms from a mundane act of shelter into a legendary hagiography. When the impoverished priest János Bélyi finds his infant sister, Veronka, shielded from a torrential downpour by a mysterious crimson canopy, the local peasantry of Glogova immediately ascribes the miracle to St. Peter himself. This 'sacred' relic becomes the town's focal point, attracting pilgrims and prosperity. Parallel to this ecclesiastical folklore runs the story of Pál Gregorics, a wealthy and eccentric man whose death sparks a frantic scavenger hunt. Suspected of hiding his vast fortune within the handle of a nondescript umbrella, his illegitimate son, György Wibra, embarks on a quest to reclaim his inheritance. The narrative threads entwine when György’s pursuit of the physical object leads him to the grown Veronka. As the search for the hidden riches reaches a fever pitch, the film explores the tension between material greed and the burgeoning purity of young love, ultimately questioning whether the true 'miracle' lies in the gold or the grace of human connection.
