Summary
In the hushed, wind‑blown plains of early twentieth‑century America, a genteel landowner, John Barlow, schemes to evict a cluster of destitute squatters clinging to the fertile fringe of his estate. Their matriarch, the indomitable Tess (Mary Pickford), embodies a fierce, earthy resilience that belies her tender heart. When Barlow's machinations culminate in a violent confrontation, the bloodied corpse of a local farmer is mistakenly attributed to Tess’s lover, the humble farmhand Ben (Harold Lockwood).
