Summary
A dust-caked Andalusian pueblo, baked by sun and superstition, receives an unannounced gift: a lanky drifter in a frayed linen suit whose eyes carry the glint of both confession and accusation. Within hours, rumor calcifies into verdict—this must be the Madrid infiltrator sent to sniff out separatist sympathies. Children shadow his strides; elders cross themselves; the mayor, nursing secret debts, sees a scaffold on which to hang his own treachery. The stranger, amused rather than alarmed, begins to mirror the town’s paranoia, planting counterfeit letters, staging midnight rendezvous with shadows, until every hidden sin bursts like overripe fruit. By the time the real federal agent arrives—an unsmiling bureaucrat with a clipboard instead of a pistol—the villagers no longer know which mirage to trust, and the stranger has already vanished, leaving only a chalk-drawn halo on the church wall and the echo of a question nobody dares to answer.
