The Prairie King

In the arid stretches of the American West, the death of Abner Ferrige leaves behind a vacuum of power and a literal gold mine of opportunity. Three disparate figures—the rugged Andy Barden, the determined Edna Jordan, and the unscrupulous Dan Murdock—converge on the late miner's estate with competing claims of ownership. What begins as a tense standoff over physical possession quickly devolves into a game of strategic maneuvering and intimidation. Edna momentarily secures the site, only for Murdock’s superior force to oust her through deception. However, the arrival of a legal representative introduces a chaotic variable: Ferrige never officially filed his claims. The narrative shifts from a siege into a desperate, cross-country race against time, as the three rivals sprint toward the distant claims office to be the first to legally codify their greed. It is a frantic examination of frontier law, where the fastest horse is more valuable than the most honest heart.
