The Slim Princess
Summary
In the whimsical, corpulence-revering realm of Morevana, Princess Kalora finds herself an anomaly, her slender physique a source of familial consternation. Her father, the Governor General, desperate to marry her off before her generously proportioned younger sister, Papova, can wed – a bizarre societal stricture – devises an elaborate ruse. At a lavish garden fête, Kalora is encased in a ludicrously inflated rubber suit, a temporary facade of desired plumpness. The charade, however, spectacularly collapses, leaving the true Kalora exposed. Soon after, a serendipitous encounter with Pike, a dashing American, ignites a nascent romance. Upon learning of a purported "cure" for slimness across the Atlantic, Kalora is dispatched to America by her hopeful father, only to once again cross paths with Pike. Unbeknownst to her family, Pike, captivated by Kalora's genuine spirit, follows her back to Morevana. The Governor General, ever the pragmatist, discovering Pike's considerable wealth, attempts to redirect his affections towards the more "desirable" Papova, oblivious to the profound connection already forged between Pike and the ostensibly "slim" princess he truly cherishes.
Synopsis
Kalora is the "slim princess of Morevana," a land in which fat is prized. This distresses her family, who must marry off Kalora, before her rotund younger sister Papova may wed. To remedy this situation, Kalora's father, the governor general, throws a garden party and disguises his slim daughter in an inflated rubber suit. All goes well until the suit ruptures, deflating Kalora to her normal size. Soon after, she meets Pike, an American, and falls in love. Upon hearing of a cure for slimness in America, the governor sends Kalora overseas where she meets Pike again. He follows her home to Morevana, and once it is discovered that he is wealthy, the governor offers the American his prized daughter Papova, only to discover that it is the slim princess whom Pike treasures.
