The Wolf Woman
Summary
A predatory siren, Leila Aradella, orchestrates a meticulous campaign of emotional and financial devastation, finding perverse gratification in the subjugation of vulnerable men. Her initial conquest, the accomplished attorney John Morton, succumbs to her insidious charm, witnessing his professional and personal integrity crumble under her influence. Subsequently, Rex Walden, a scion of privilege and generosity, is ensnared in her web, reduced to a pathetic thrall by her calculated manipulation. When his protective mother, Mrs. Walden, dispatches her elder son Franklin to intervene, he too falls victim to Leila's magnetic allure, inadvertently propelling Rex towards a desperate, self-inflicted end. In a final, desperate gambit, Mrs. Walden deploys Adele Harley, a beacon of resolute moral fortitude, to challenge Leila's dominion over Franklin. Adele's unwavering virtue ultimately shatters Leila's carefully constructed facade of invincibility, culminating in a grotesque act of self-mutilation born of drunken despair and shattered vanity, leaving the once-radiant enchantress a desolate, disfigured recluse.
Synopsis
An narcissistic woman with the ability to charm, Leila Aradella reaps delight from preying upon weak men. Her first victim is John Morton, a talented lawyer, whom she ruins both morally and financially. Her second victim, Rex Walden, the generous son of society matron Mrs. Walden, becomes her complete slave. Mrs. Walden sends her elder son Franklin to try to dissuade Leila from toying with Rex's affections. Franklin, however, also falls under Leila's spell, and Rex is driven to suicide by her callous behavior. Desperate, Mrs. Walden enlists Adele Harley, a girl of strong moral character, to fight Leila for Franklin's affections. Adele's determined victory causes Leila to lose her confidence, and in a drunken state, she cuts her own face with a shard from her shattered mirror. Permanently disfigured, Leila ends a broken and lonely woman.
