7.6/10

A definitive 7.6/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. A Wet Knight remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
If you like old cartoons that feel like they were drawn by people who hadn't slept in three days, then yes. You should watch it.
People who need logic or a "point" to their stories will probably hate it. It's just a rabbit running away from a monkey in the rain. ⛈️
It starts with the rain. This isn't normal movie rain; it looks like thick, black ink falling from a sky that's way too dark.
Oswald and Kitty are just trying not to drown. They find this castle, and honestly, the background art is the best part of the whole thing.
It has that old-school, scratchy atmosphere you sometimes find in movies like The White Terror. It's moody for no reason.
Then the gorilla shows up. Why is there a gorilla in a castle? 🦍
Nobody knows. He just exists to cause problems and look slightly terrifying with those huge, unblinking eyes.
There is a moment where the gorilla is chasing them through a hallway. The background keeps repeating the same weird statue over and over.
It’s clearly a budget thing, but it makes the castle feel like a limitless nightmare. It’s accidental genius, maybe.
The way Oswald moves is so rubbery. His legs just kind of turn into wheels when he runs.
I noticed the sound design is really crunchy. Every time something hits a wall, it sounds like someone dropping a bag of wet gravel.
You can tell Tex Avery had his hands on this. It has that early "anything can happen" energy that makes sense if you've seen his later work.
It’s definitely more fun than sitting through something heavy like Martin Luther, His Life and Time. At least nobody is arguing about theology here.
There’s a bit with a skeleton that feels a little too long. The skeleton just kind of wobbles there for about ten seconds too many.
But then the action picks back up. The physics make zero sense, which is exactly how it should be.
If you grew up watching Spanky or those old shorts, this is going to feel very familiar. It’s that same chaotic 1930s vibe.
The ending is pretty abrupt. They just kind of get away and the movie stops.
I think I prefer that over a long, boring conclusion. It’s just a burst of weirdness and then it’s over.
Definitely watch it if you're into the history of animation. Or if you just like seeing a rabbit look stressed out.
