6/10
Senior Film Conservator

A definitive 6/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Dangerous Corner remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
If you like movies where people just sit in nice rooms and yell at each other for an hour, you'll be fine. If you need explosions or even a single shot of the outside world, look elsewhere. It’s a play. A very, very talky play.
It’s definitely not for folks who want 'action.' But if you enjoy watching a group of wealthy, bored people slowly dismantle their own lives because they can't stop asking questions, you might find this strangely addictive.
The whole thing kicks off because someone mentions a cigarette box. Seriously. That’s the match that lights the fuse.
I found myself thinking about The Greater Law while watching this—not because they are similar, but because sometimes you just want a movie that keeps its feet on the ground, even if it's trapped in a single living room.
The way they pace around that room is exhausting. Nobody ever just sits down to have a drink. They are all like caged animals in tuxedos.
There is this one moment where a character stares into the middle distance for what feels like a full minute, and I swear the actor forgot his next line. It wasn't 'dramatic.' It was just weird. 🤨
The acting is… well, it’s theatrical. They aren't talking to each other; they are projecting to the back row of a theater that isn't there.
It reminds me a bit of the frantic energy in ¡Huye, faldas!, even if the stakes here are about embezzlement and infidelity rather than slapstick. You can tell they really wanted to make this feel heavy.
It gets better when they finally stop trying to be polite. The polite phase is rough. It’s like watching paint dry, but the paint is wearing a bowtie.
Once the masks slip, the movie is actually kind of mean-spirited. I liked that. It’s honest in a way most movies from this era aren't. They aren't trying to teach you a lesson. They're just showing you how quickly a life can turn to garbage.
It feels a little like a fever dream. You watch them dig these holes for themselves and you just know they aren't going to get out.
I don't know if I'd recommend it to everyone. But if you’re into messy human behavior, it hits the spot. Just don't expect it to change your life. 🤷♂️
