Should you watch Neighbor Trouble? Only if you have ten minutes to kill and a high tolerance for people shouting at each other in black and white. It is for the folks who miss the days when comedy meant someone getting a pie in the face or a door slammed on their thumb. If you are looking for nuance or, you know, a plot that makes sense, you will probably hate it.
The whole thing is just a mess of domestic frustration. It’s loud. It’s grainy. It feels like watching a family argument through a keyhole while someone plays a frantic piano tune over your shoulder. 🎹
Alice Belcher is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. She has this way of widening her eyes that screams 'I am going to snap,' which is honestly the most relatable part of the entire ordeal. The pacing is basically 'run, yell, trip, repeat.'
It reminds me a bit of the frantic energy in Colleen, but with way more yelling and way less dancing. It’s not a masterpiece, and nobody involved was trying to change the world. They just wanted to make someone laugh before the reel ran out.
Sometimes the comedy works because it’s so blunt. Other times, it just feels like watching a neighbor’s bad day unfold. I didn't learn anything. I didn't feel inspired. I just watched people be difficult for a while. Sometimes that’s enough. 🤷♂️
