Biography

A County Cork cradle on 24 May 1882 delivered Patrick Hale — later screen-renamed Creighton — who sprinted from Irish drizzle straight into Hollywood’s silent whirlwind. Between 1914 and the talkie takeover he logged nearly 200 appearances, but three still flicker brightest: the skittish heir stalked through 1927’s The Cat and the Canary, the gambling husband spinning through 1925’s The Circle, and the chipper doughboy serenading Riley of the Rainbow Division in 1928. Off-camera he collected two Mrs. Hales — first Victoire Lowe, then Kathleen Bering — and, long after the klieg lights cooled, settled in South Pasadena, California, where he died quietly on 9 August 1965.
