Summary
In this sophisticated silent-era social tapestry, a flailing entrepreneur, desperate to rejuvenate his stagnant mercantile ventures, capitulates to a dubious suggestion: utilizing his spouse’s social grace as a catalyst for corporate acquisition. What begins as a strategic deployment of charm rapidly devolves into a labyrinthine psychodrama where domestic sanctity is bartered for professional gain. As Marie Prevost navigates the treacherous waters of high-stakes negotiation, the green-eyed monster of jealousy erupts, casting a pall of suspicion over her virtue and threatening to dismantle the very foundation of her marital union. The narrative interrogates the precarious boundary between public utility and private devotion, ultimately questioning whether a marriage can survive the commodification of its most intimate bonds.
