Biography
A monsoon-season baby, Donald Hall drew his first breath on 14 August 1867 in the garrison town of Morree, perched on the North-West Frontier of British India. Three decades later he had swapped the Himalayan foothills for footlights, carving out a silent-screen career that peaked with Uncle Bill (1914), glided into Hearts and the Highway (1915), and closed its final chapter with the whodunit The Carter Case (1919). Off-camera he shared his life with actress Frankie Mann, the woman who became his wife. On 25 July 1948, beneath the dry San Fernando Valley sun, Hall’s story ended at Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, closing the circuit from Indian cradle to Californian twilight.
