Biography
"Born in Watertown, New York, on the festive Christmas Day of 1868, Eugenie Besserer embarked on her cinematic journey relatively late in life. At 42, she graced the screen for the first time in 1910, making her debut in the silent rendition of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Throughout her career, Besserer became a highly sought-after character actress, her versatility and readiness to embrace diverse roles making her an indispensable presence in Hollywood. This adaptability allowed her to contribute to a wide array of productions, including the dramatic Enemies of Children (1923), the crime story The Millionaire Policeman (1926), and notably, the groundbreaking The Jazz Singer (1927), which shattered cinematic barriers as the first 'talkie.' Her filmography continued with A Royal Romance (1930) before she made her final appearance in 1933's To the Last Man. Eugenie Besserer passed away from natural causes in Los Angeles, California, on May 28, 1934."
