Biography
Born on a chill November day in 1887, Budapest’s own Gyula Szöreghy first drew breath in a city of gaslight and coffee-house gossip. Within three decades he had slipped behind the camera and in front of it, guiding and embodying phantoms: the clay giant’s final bow in *The Golem’s Last Adventure* (1921), the tangled bourgeois passions of *Ifjabb Fromont és idősebb Risler* (1919), and the daredevil whirl of *Looping the Loop* (1928). Off-screen, he shared his life with actress René Sellő. On 22 December 1942, while the world convulsed, he quietly returned the city’s air, still in the capital that had always been his stage.
