Biography
Born in Magdeburg on 7 January 1890, Henny Porten stepped before the camera in 1906 for Apachentanz and never really stepped away. Over the next half-century she became a fixture of German screens, outlasting trends, regimes, and technological upheavals while other stars faded. From Weimar silents to post-war sound stages, she logged appearances in hundreds of productions, closing her account in 1955 at 65 with the fairy-tale thriller Die Schätze des Teufels (released as Das Fräulein von Scuderi). Porten died in Berlin on 15 October 1960, aged 70, leaving behind the rarest of legacies: a continuous thread from cinema’s infancy to its modern era.
