Biography
London welcomed John Webb Dillion on 6 February 1877, and by 1913 he had swapped fog for flicker, swaggering through Robin Hood’s Sherwood in front of the nascent movie camera. Two years later he breathed life into Shakespeare’s star-crossed lover in Romeo and Juliet, then slipped into The Darling of Paris (1917), each role stitching his name into the bright tapestry of early Hollywood. Off-screen, he shared the spotlight—and a marriage license—with actress Catherine V. Earl. The final curtain fell on 20 December 1949, far from the Thames in sun-soaked Hollywood, California, but the celluloid he left behind still whispers his name.
