Summary
Alice Carroll’s descent from a wrongly accused fugitive into the humid, moral twilight of Tangier serves as the kinetic heart of this silent melodrama. Trapped by a judicial error, she seeks sanctuary across the Mediterranean, only to find herself ensnared by the predatory Wilhelm von Linke, a man whose gambling den operates as a purgatory for the displaced. As Henry Holcombe, the very District Attorney who initially facilitated her ruin, unearths the evidence of her innocence, he embarks on a transcontinental odyssey to rectify his catastrophic mistake. The film navigates the precarious intersection of law and luck within the seedy underbelly of North Africa, where Alice’s autonomy becomes the ultimate stake in a high-stakes game of survival and redemption.
