Biography
Sam De Grasse crossed the border from New Brunswick to California in 1912, traded his pharmacy ledger for greasepaint, and promptly cornered the market on velvet-clad vipers, leering poisoners, and back-stabbing counts. Douglas Fairbanks—swashbuckler, audience darling, and connoisseur of hiss-worthy villains—recruited him again and again, letting De Grasse’s snake-eyed smirk sharpen the hero’s shine. Off-screen, the De Grasse clan formed a mini-film dynasty: older brother Joseph directed, nephew Robert later painted with light behind the camera, while Sam kept audiences happily jeering at the darkest hearts of the silent era.
