Biography
Harvey Gates first drew breath on 19 January 1889 amid the pineapple-scented breezes of Oahu, Hawaii. From those Pacific beginnings he spun stories that traveled halfway around the globe, scripting the roaring operetta The Desert Song (1929), the sky-high adventure Flying Hostess (1936), and the dust-swirling western mystery The Mysterious Rider (1933). Along the way he shared his life with two wives—Lucie Genez and, later, Eleanor Brown—before closing his final chapter in Los Angeles, California, on 4 November 1948.
