
Summary
In the midst of a stifling marriage, Geraldine Laird resides with her mother, much to the chagrin of her husband Dean, who yearns for a humble abode where he can forge a stronger bond with his own family. However, Geraldine's existence is soon disrupted by the arrival of Kennedy Bond, a literary agent who recognizes her husband's latent talent for playwriting. As Laird accompanies Bond to New York, Geraldine follows suit, determined to salvage her marriage. Upon her arrival in the city, she stumbles upon a job as a saleswoman and is subsequently discovered by a theatrical manager, who is enamored with her impersonations of the renowned actress Sarah Bernhardt. As Geraldine's star rises in the theatrical world, she encounters her husband, now a failed playwright, at a banquet held in her honor. Although she initially denounces him in front of the guests, Geraldine eventually forgives Laird, and the couple is reconciled.
Synopsis
Although she is married, Geraldine Laird insists upon living with her mother, much to her husband Dean's disgust. Dean would prefer a small house where he would see more of his own family and less of his in-laws and uninvited guests. Laird has an ambition to write plays, so when Kennedy Bond, a literary agent, visits the village and tells him he has talent, Laird accompanies her back to New York. Geraldine, determined to save her husband, follows him to the city. There she accepts a job as a saleswoman and is discovered by a theatrical manager who sees her impersonations of actress Sarah Bernhardt and offers her a job. Becoming a theatrical star, Geraldine encounters her husband, the failed playwright, at a banquet given in her honor. After denouncing him in front of the guests, Geraldine later forgets her anger and they are reconciled.
