Biography
October 12, 1881, Berlin, Wisconsin: the curtain rose on William Nigh. Within a decade he had swapped the dairy-country quiet for flickering nickelodeon lights, first mugging before the camera, then sliding behind it to pull the strings. Between 1916’s Notorious Gallagher—an explosive revenge yarn—and the Roaring-Twenties campus comedy School Days, he learned to balance sentiment and speed. By 1924 he staked his claim to lasting notice with Born Rich, a velvet-gloved dissection of Fifth Avenue silver-spoon syndrome. Thirty-one years and some sixty features later, the lights dimmed for good on November 27, 1955, in Burbank, California, leaving behind a reel legacy stitched in celluloid and midwestern grit.
