A Child of the Wild
Summary
A lantern-lit schoolhouse clings to a Tennessee spur where fog devours the trail at dusk; into this watercolor of isolation strides an idealist armed with chalk instead of a rifle, determined to coax enlightenment from moonshine country. His brightest ember is June, a barefoot savant whose smile could thaw winter sap, yet whose letters tumble like orphaned chickadees. Between them unfurls a fraught pas de deux of verbs and vulnerabilities—until a lout with gravel in his voice and lightning in his fists whispers that the teacher’s nightly visits to a cabin yonder are conjugal, not familial. The lie detonates like a jug of bootleg gin, scattering trust across hollers and hemlocks, and what remains is a crucible of bruised hearts, courtroom clamor, and a final trek through pre-dawn mist where love must either limp home or learn to fly.
Synopsis
A teacher begins a school in the Tennessee mountains. His prize student is a charming but uneducated young woman named June. Their relationship turns to love, but a bullying, jealous rival tries to break them up by telling her that the teacher's sister and niece are actually his wife and daughter.
