Summary
A rustic physician, besotted with the village belle, orchestrates an audacious matrimonial coup: he wires the girl’s recalcitrant father across a mist-choked gorge on a creaking rope-railway, suspending the patriarch mid-air like a baited hawk until the dangling codger hollers his consent to the union below. The ceremony—flowers, fiddle, and fluttering veil—awaits on the far bank, a promised Eden glimpsed through spruce needles. Thus love, scalpel-sharp, severs filial obstruction with engineering bravura, knotting desire and duty into one precarious, swaying yes.
Synopsis
The doctor is in love with the girl and, as her father's consent and presence is required, this is obtained by sending the old man across the stream on a rope railway, but not allowing him to land before he gives his consent to the wedding which is all planted on the opposite shore.
