Summary
Hugh Whittaker, convinced that a fatal diagnosis seals his fate, performs a selfless marriage to Mary, a forlorn young woman abandoned by a lover, as an act of compassion. The union, intended as a merciful final gesture, is abruptly interrupted when Hugh's health rebounds during a restorative sojourn across Europe. Returning to the bustling streets of New York, he encounters the luminous stage star Sara Law, whose charisma ensnares his heart, oblivious to the fact that she is, in fact, his legally wedded Mary under a new stage name. When Sara is seized by a ruthless kidnapping ring, Hugh plunges into a perilous rescue operation, only to uncover the startling truth of her dual identity, intertwining love, deception, and redemption in a single, breath‑tight narrative.
