Du skal ære
Summary
In a wind‑blown Danish coastal town, the Bruun family confronts the fragile edifice of honor that has defined them for generations. The patriarch, Cajus Bruun, a respected merchant, faces a scandal when an illicit correspondence between his son Hugo and a young woman named Nathalie Krause surfaces. The revelation threatens not only his business empire but the very identity of the household. As the family gathers in the dimly lit parlor, secrets unravel: the mother, Petrine Sonne, harbors a past liaison; the eldest daughter, Gudrun Bruun Stephensen, has long suppressed her own ambitions; and the elderly uncle, Olaf Fønss, whispers of ancestral codes that bind them. Amidst this turmoil, a visiting lawyer, Valdemar Møller, advises on legal recourse, while a local journalist, Oscar Nielsen, seeks to expose the truth. The film’s climax forces Cajus to choose between preserving his family's reputation and honoring the honest heart of his son, culminating in a quiet, cathartic confession that restores balance to a fractured lineage.
