Against the bustling, often deceptive, backdrop of Brooklyn's seaside amusements, Paula, the shrewd and world-weary proprietor of a local revue, extends a protective, if somewhat calculating, hand to Mary Lee. Mary, the naive progeny of a fading actress, arrives with an untainted innocence that stands in stark contrast to her new environment. Yet, her youthful impetuosity quickly leads her astray, drawing her into the orbit of Tony Tyler, the glib and utterly dissolute owner of a competing show, who cunningly ensnares her with hollow promises of matrimony and a more glamorous existence. Perceiving Tony's predatory intentions and the imminent danger to Mary's future, Paula ingeniously feigns a romantic interest in the scoundrel. Her calculated maneuver ultimately exposes his true, mercenary character, a revelation that shatters Mary's illusions and guides her back towards the steadfast devotion of Bill Armstrong, her true, unassuming love.
