Four Around the Woman

In the labyrinthine social strata of 1921 Berlin, Harry Yquem, a financial titan of the stock exchange, finds his formidable intellect eclipsed by a corrosive, burgeoning paranoia. Despite his wife Florence’s apparent sanctity and unwavering devotion, Harry becomes the architect of his own psychological immolation, convinced that her past conceals a clandestine infidelity. This fixation propels him into a shadow world where the boundaries between the high-bourgeoisie and the criminal underworld blur. He assumes a secondary persona, infiltrating a den of illicit dealings known as the 'Catacombs' to intercept a mysterious individual from Florence’s history. The narrative unfolds as a complex geometry of four distinct men—each representing a different facet of desire, debt, or deception—who orbit Florence, testing the structural integrity of her marriage and Harry’s sanity. It is a proto-noir exploration of the 'green-eyed monster,' where the protagonist's wealth cannot buy him the one thing he craves: the absolute certainty of another soul’s fidelity.
