Summary
A sun-drenched Mediterranean villa, all alabaster colonnades and scandalously translucent drapery, becomes the stage for a delirious ballet of ink, flesh, and jealousy. Snub, bicycle courier and accidental poet, pedals through cypress shadows carrying a commission that could catapult an unknown dauber to overnight fame; hot on his wheels glides Boland, velvet-suited rival courier, whose smirk promises sabotage rather than service. Inside, the artist—half-absent ringmaster—has abandoned his canvases to a riot of models who wear nothing but cobalt pigment and the arch laughter of nymphs. The two messengers, stripped to their suspenders by the sorority of muses, are drafted as living brushes: buttocks pressed against wet oils, torsos rolled across unprimed linen, the studio itself turned into a panting, polychrome organism. When Young, a Neapolitan bull of a husband, storms through the portico hunting the phantom seducer of his wife, the chase becomes a staccato fugue—doors slamming like cymbals, ladders toppling like dominoes, a fresco of Cupid suffering the indignity of a black eye. By the time the bicycle bells ring their retreat, the estate is a palimpsest of lipstick, tyre tracks, and the ghost of a smile no spouse can erase.
