In the bucolic yet subtly sinister landscape of Corrèze, a tapestry of simmering resentment and avarice unfurls, centered around the enigmatic Landry Smith and his innocent ward, Minnie. Smith, a man whose past transgressions cast long shadows, finds himself the unwitting target of a meticulously orchestrated betrayal. His servant, Kate Lockwood, driven by a corrosive blend of greed and perhaps long-held bitterness, conspires with Bill Stanley, a Mexican cowboy whose sadism is as pronounced as his efficiency, to orchestrate Smith's demise and abscond with his wealth.
