Summary
In the chaotic confines of a turbulent sea voyage, three cunning jewel thieves execute a precise maneuver, secreting a valuable necklace down the back of an unsuspecting passenger, Wanda. A simple, accidental bump from Wanda sends their female accomplice plummeting into the unforgiving ocean, inadvertently leaving Wanda in possession of the illicit goods. A diligent detective, ever-present, attempts to monitor the crooks, who, in turn, are singularly focused on Wanda, fearing the permanent loss of their precious loot. What ensues is a relentless, almost farcical pursuit across land and sea, with Wanda narrowly evading her pursuers through a series of increasingly improbable escapes, from frantic cab switches to an aerial ascent via telephone wire. Her desperate flight culminates in a surprising reunion at her aunt's home, where she discovers a shared predicament: her aunt, too, is plagued by persistent thieves. The original crooks, undeterred, make several attempts to breach the aunt's abode. Wanda, ever resourceful, makes a dramatic exit through a window, is serendipitously scooped up by a passing motorcyclist, and ultimately lands in the sanctuary of a police station, with the bumbling criminals hot on her heels, delivering them directly into the arms of the law. For her unwitting heroism, Wanda is unexpectedly adorned with the symbols of police authority.
Synopsis
All on the ship are seasick. Three slick jewelry crooks pass a necklace down Wanda's back. Wanda accidentally bumps their female accomplice, and the dame takes a long tumble into the deep blue sea. A detective tries to keep his eye on the crooks, who are busy keeping their peepers on Wanda, for fear that they lose their precious swag. They chase Wanda until she is almost bowlegged, but she manages to elude them and gets on shore. Here they spot her again, and she pops into a cab. They follow and enter her cab. She battles them and escapes to another cab. Finally, she seizes a telephone wire and pulls herself into a home which proves to be that of her aunt's. They are delighted to meet each other. She discovers that her aunt, who has considerable jewelry, is also bothered by thieves. Wanda's original pair make several efforts to get in, and when they succeed, she dives out of the window, is picked up by a passing motorcycle, and finally lands in the police station, with the thieves hot on her trail. The two plumb into the arms of the law, and Wanda is rewarded with a cop's coat, hat, and badge.
