A sun-drenched afternoon in a nameless American town becomes the chessboard for two women’s sly experiment in trust: Dorothy Devore’s ringed housewife, serenely convinced of her husband’s incorruptibility, and Helen Darling’s unshackled singleton, eyes sparkling with mischievous skepticism. Their wager: will the uxorious spouse stray if a perfumed lure dangles before him?
