Summary
In a rural tableau, the free-spirited Auriole Praed finds herself ensnared by the suffocating ardor of her neighbor, the farmer Leo Bannister, whose relentless pursuit borders on the predatory. Seeking respite from his unwelcome advances, she embarks on a journey to the cultural crucible of Paris, where a chance encounter with Otto Bettany, a promising young artist, ignites a fervent romance culminating in matrimony. However, their idyllic return to the pastoral tranquility is swiftly shattered by Bannister’s unyielding obsession. Synopsis
Farmer Leo Bannister is crazy about his neighbor Auriole Praed, but she finds him to becoming on too strong. She travels to Paris to see her brother, and there falls in love with and marries Otto Bettany, a young painter. When the couple return home, Bannister--still carrying a torch for Auriole--plots to claim Auriole for himself by using a beautiful young actress to work her "charms" on Otto and then showing Auriole how untrustworthy her new husband is.
