The Greater Woman

In a rural tableau, the free-spirited Auriole Praed finds herself ensnared by the suffocating ardor of her neighbor, the farmer Leo Bannister, whose relentless pursuit borders on the predatory. Seeking respite from his unwelcome advances, she embarks on a journey to the cultural crucible of Paris, where a chance encounter with Otto Bettany, a promising young artist, ignites a fervent romance culminating in matrimony. However, their idyllic return to the pastoral tranquility is swiftly shattered by Bannister’s unyielding obsession. Still consumed by a possessive desire for Auriole, he meticulously orchestrates a Machiavellian scheme: enlisting a captivating, professional enchantress to subtly insinuate herself into Otto’s life, thereby exposing his perceived infidelity and, in Bannister’s twisted vision, clearing the path to claim Auriole as his own, under the guise of revealing her husband's perfidy.
