In the unforgiving expanse of the Canadian wilderness, a desperate act sets in motion a chain of inescapable consequences. Marie, a young woman trapped in a brutal marriage to the drunken trapper Raoul La Fane, fires a desperate shot during an assault, believing she has ended his life. Fleeing the perceived murder, she plunges into the vast, indifferent snowscape, only to find solace and a new beginning with the compassionate Louis Le Blanc. Their quiet union, however, is a fragile construction built upon a terrifying secret. When Raoul, a specter from a past she believed buried, resurfaces, Marie's carefully constructed peace shatters. The revelation forces Louis to confront the ghost of her past, culminating in a violent confrontation in the wild, where fate, or perhaps a higher justice, delivers a final, brutal judgment.
