The Ordeal of Rosetta

The twin sisters, Rosetta and Lola Gelardi, inhabit a sun‑lit Sicilian hamlet where the clatter of their father’s scholarly pursuits blends with the simple joys of village life. Escaping the rubble, they cross the Atlantic, settling in New York where Rosetta, with her unassuming grace, secures a position as a stenographer for the celebrated author Aubrey Hapgood. In the glittering, yet impersonal, streets of the city, Rosetta’s quiet dignity draws Aubrey’s attention, and the pair become the center of a social whirl that also attracts Mildred Sanders, a woman whose own ambitions threaten to eclipse the tender romance.
