Summary
Amidst the untamed expanse of the Chanta Seechee Ranch in Oklahoma, a simmering conflict ignites with the unwelcome arrival of Albert Jones, a Bostonian 'tenderfoot' dispatched by absentee Eastern owners to instill rigid 'business methods.' This managerial imposition clashes directly with the established, free-spirited leadership of foreman William 'Red' Saunders. Red, a figure of natural authority, deftly quells a potential rebellion among the cowboys, who, despite his intervention, channel their ire into a series of elaborate jests aimed at the bewildered Jones. The narrative takes a romantic turn with the impending visit of Jones's niece, Loys Andres, initially anticipated by the mischievous ranch hands as an 'old maid' ripe for their boisterous reception. However, Loys's unexpected allure instantly captivates them, particularly Kyle Lambert, Red's bunk-mate, who, swept away by her charm, swiftly proposes marriage. Predictably, Jones attempts to obstruct this burgeoning romance, prompting Red, a true orchestrator of destiny, to facilitate an audacious elopement. Their dash for freedom is dramatically interrupted at a perilous ford by the notorious rustler 'Squint-Eye' Lucas, whose errant shot slightly wounds Kyle. With remarkable courage, Loys races back to the ranch for assistance. The ensuing climax sees Red heroically confront and neutralize Lucas, ensuring Kyle's rescue. With the lovers reunited and safe, Loys and Kyle solemnize their union, ultimately eliciting a grudging blessing from a defeated Jones, a poignant testament to the enduring triumph of frontier spirit and heartfelt connection over stringent, imported dogma.
Synopsis
Unhappy with William "Red" Saunders, the foreman of the Chanta Seechee Ranch in Oklahoma, its Eastern owners send a Boston tenderfoot named Albert Jones to manage the ranch with "Eastern business methods." Red prevents the angry cowboys from quitting, but they insist on making Jones the butt of their jokes and tricks. Upon learning that Jones's niece, Loys Andres, is planning a visit, the boys plan a rowdy reception for the woman, whom they expect will be an old maid. Loys's beauty, however, surprises them all, and Red's bunk-mate, Kyle Lambert, falls in love with her, and he soon proposes. When Jones tries to break up the romance, Red arranges for an elopement, but as the lovers reach the ford, a rustler called "Squint-Eye" Lucas fires at them, slightly wounding Kyle. Loys returns to the ranch for help, Red shoots Lucas, and Kyle is rescued, after which Loys and Kyle marry. Beaten, Jones gives the couple his blessing.
