The Unknown

In the shadow of a traveling circus, Alonzo the Armless performs a death-defying knife-throwing act using only his feet. Behind the curtain, however, Alonzo is a fugitive with perfectly functional arms, hiding a distinctive physical deformity—a double thumb—that would link him to a brutal murder. He is hopelessly obsessed with Nanon, the circus owner's daughter, who suffers from a visceral, psychological phobia of being touched by men's hands. Seeing her trauma as his opportunity, Alonzo conceives a horrific plan to secure her love: he will undergo a secret, illegal amputation to become the armless man he pretends to be. But as he recovers from the surgery, a cruel twist of irony awaits him back at the circus that transforms his sacrifice into a grotesque nightmare.
