Summary
Al is a man whose internal rhythm is entirely at odds with his professional survival. While employed as a delivery boy for a high-end department store, he loses himself in an impromptu dance routine, a moment of kinetic joy that is promptly snuffed out by his rigid supervisor. Fired and literally booted into the street, Al’s bad luck takes a physical turn when he is struck by a vehicle driven by Zelma and her companion, Phil. In a desperate attempt to avoid the legal fallout of their negligence, the pair decides that domestic servitude is a cheaper alternative to a courtroom. They haul the dazed Al into their home under the guise of hiring a valet. What follows is a chaotic collision of class, incompetence, and physical wreckage, as Al’s presence in the household proves far more destructive than any lawsuit could have been.
Synopsis
Al is a delivery boy for a department store. Al is practicing a dance, his boss sees him, fires him and kicks him out for the store into the path of an automobile which knocks him for a loop. The driver, Zelma, and the passenger, Phil, take the still-goofy Al to her home. Phil suggests they hire Al as a valet in order to avoid a lawsuit. A lawsuit would have been better than having Al around the house.
