Biography
Dan Mason entered the world on 9 February 1853 amid the snow-muted streets of Syracuse, New York. By trade an actor and scribbler of stories, he lent his weathered presence to the flickering silents—commanding the redwood forests in 1927’s The Valley of the Giants, wearing Puritan guilt in 1917’s The Scarlet Letter, and swapping stocks for laughs in 1925’s The Wall Street Whiz. Off-screen he claimed Millicent La Fonte—stage-named Millie La Fonte—as his lifelong scene partner. The curtain fell for good on 6 July 1929 in the quiet hamlet of Baersville, New York, leaving the klieg lights a shade dimmer.
