Biography
A winter baby born in Cheyenne on 29 November 1901, Mildred Harris stepped from the high-plains wind straight into the klieg-light glow of silent cinema. Before she could vote, audiences knew her face from The Price of a Good Time (1917), The Doctor and the Woman (1918), and For Husbands Only (1918). Off-screen, three surnames entered her scrapbook: William Peter Fleckenstein, Everett Terrence McGovern, and, most famously, Charles Chaplin. The cameras stopped rolling when she died in Hollywood on 20 July 1944, but the flicker of her early pictures keeps the story moving.
