A Double-Dyed Deceiver
Summary
From the sun-drenched, languorous climes of a South American 'parrot-and-monkey country,' where the very air exhales a perpetual post-prandial contentment, a fugitive from Texan justice, known only as the Llano Kid, seeks refuge. This hardened outlaw, fleeing the specter of a past transgression, finds himself ensnared in an intricate charade orchestrated by a cunning consul. He is to impersonate the long-lost scion of a venerable Castilian family, a deception cemented by the indelible mark of a tattooed coat of arms upon his hand. Ushered into the embrace of a household yearning for its missing heir, the Kid experiences, for the first time, the profound solace of unconditional affection and the warmth of a true home. He becomes the cherished son, the beloved brother, and finds an unexpected romance blossoming amidst the fabricated familial bliss. Yet, as the moment approaches for him to complete the deceit—to pilfer and vanish into the shadows—a newly awakened humanity stirs within him. The genuine love and trust bestowed upon him by the gladdened mother, a woman whose heart he now understands, prove an insurmountable barrier to betrayal. He cannot inflict such profound sorrow. The narrative's true sting, however, lies in its final, devastating revelation: the very man the Llano Kid murdered back in Texas, the catalyst for his flight and subsequent impersonation, was, in fact, the authentic son he was pretending to be.
Synopsis
Most of the scenes are laid in a parrot-and-monkey country in South America, a land where "it is always after dinner." The Llano Kid, a Texas bad man, flees there from justice. The consul persuades him to play the long-lost son of a Castilian family, and tattoos a coat of arms on the back of the Kid's hand to make the deception complete. The Kid is taken into the household, trusted and loved by the gladdened mother. For the first time he has a home. The romance develops. And when the time comes to rob and flee he has too much manhood to break the loving mother's heart. The surprise comes when it is revealed that the man the Kid killed in Texas was the real son.
